The movie

Each year, up to 15 junior scientists are given the opportunity to earn a doctorate at the Berlin School of Mind and Brain. What awaits them here is an interdisciplinary education combining neurosciences, like neurology and psychiatry, with the humanities, like philosophy, linguistics, and psychology. Each of the young scientists is ably supported by two tutors, one from the humanities and one from the natural sciences. All in all, some 60 researchers participate in the graduate school’s activities, hailing from the Berlin, Potsdam, and Magdeburg universities, as well as from the Max Planck Institutes in Berlin and Leipzig. In the course of the three-year program, the first year focuses on theoretical training, whereas the two subsequent years emphasize research for the candidates’ doctoral thesis. Instruction at Berlin School of Mind and Brain is carried out in English, an attractive incentive for non-German students
